Hi there Bimmers!

This one is for those Modelers using Revit Structure. A structural Technician wanted to get the surface Area quantity of the framing used in the model. Steel members did not carry the Surface area Parameter. The surface area information is important to understand the amount of coating required.

I worked out a simple example to acquire surface area by adding a surface area parameter on the element .The surface area parameter is a shared parameter.

Yes the surface area parameter is unique for that element and requires an equation involving other structural parameters.

The Parameter Surface Area =Length * (4 * bf + 2 * d - 2 * tw)

Once the parameter is added on the element, the available fields on th schedule for Structural framing updates with surface area.

Hope this was of some help.Bye for now.
